On SATURDAY, June 11, 2011 from 5pm-6:30pm, please join Alabama’s first African-American Miss Alabama and top-ten Miss America semi-finalist, Kalyn Chapman James for a Happy Hour With a Cause presented in partnership with Aloft Birmingham Soho Square.
The $20 donation includes includes light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar featuring happy hour cocktail specials.
This evening of networking and mingling at the stylish w xyz(SM) b…ar will raise awareness of and funds for the Kalyn Chapman James Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded, in honor of Alabama’s ONLY African-American Miss Alabama, specifically to the highest scoring African-American contestant in the Miss Alabama Pageant.
A brief program begins at 6:00 and will recognize a past recipient of the KCJ Scholarship, and conclude with words from Miss Alabama 1993, Kalyn Chapman James.

About the KCJS: The Kalyn Chapman James Scholarship has been awarded for three years at the annual Miss Alabama Scholarship Pageant (MAP), a preliminary to the Miss America Pageant. It is awarded to the highest scoring African-American contestant in the State pageant and has been awarded in the amounts of $250, $250, and $500 dollars over the past three years. All scholarships awarded at the MAP assist young women in obtaining a college education.
